HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR – Once again, Rick, Alice and Kim Filter fail to disappoint with their wonderful Halloween display by their home on 77. We thank them for going through the trouble to share their festive spirit with us. Thank you!
COMMUNITY CLUB MEETING – On Thursday November 14th the Clam Lake Community Club will be holding their monthly meeting beginning at 5:00 pm. After the meeting there will be a Pot Luck followed by some Clam Lake Style Bingo led by Master Bingo Caller Ace Griffaw. Time to come out and visit with friends and neighbors and learn what’s going on in the village at the same time. Hope to see you there!
BOOK CLUB – The next meeting of the Clam Lake Book Club will be held on Tuesday November 12th running from 2:30 to 3:30 at Lisa Peifer’s cabin. The book being discussed will be “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Reid is also the author of “Daisy Jones and the Six” which appeared on Amazon Prime Video. TRADEGY AVERTED! – This past Thursday evening saw the Clam Lake Junction suffer a major gas leak when a customer drove off with a hose attached. Here is Lyn Hartl’s explanation – “Person drove off with fuel nozzle in her car. The pump breakaway hose did its job but the torque on the pump broke a gasket in the pump mixer. This caused a fuel leak that was contained by the fire department and under the pump by designed safety basins.” According to Tom Biasi of the Glidden Fire Department Makala and Rich Reukema were first on scene quickly jumping into action. Makala evacuated the Motel with Rich and Tom breaking in through a door to get inside the Junction to the controls. Since Lyn was not readily available due to bad cell phone reception, Rich had the foresight to call Tim McFadden (former owner) whom talked him through the internal workings of the Junction to shut off the gas. By the time the Glidden Fire Department arrived 75 or more gallons of gas was flowing down the Junction driveway heading for Clam Lake Road. Speaking to John Pankratz, Fire Chief of Glidden, he said they were able to alert the Ashland Fire Department HazMat Unit whom headed down to help contain the spill and dispose of the mats that the Glidden Department laid down to absorb some of the gas. A big thank you goes out to all involved with their quick thinking and response during this situation that given one wrong move could have gone disastrously wrong. This includes Makala and Rich Reukema, Tom Biasi, Tim and Tammy McFadden, the Glidden Fire Department (whom had to dodge elk on the road to get to us!) and the Ashland Fire Department HazMat Unit. Considering we are experiencing drought conditions and had high winds this could have been very bad. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! (As a side note – the driver of the vehicle did call 911 to alert emergency services.)
