Clam Lake News & Events

Hello Clam Lake!

Mother Nature decided to throw us a couple of curve balls with her weather choices this past week. One minute it was sunny and 70 degrees, then it was a bit of a thunderstorm going on with temperatures dropping. On Halloween, she treated us to a trick of her own by sending us our first snowfall of the season. This gal seemed to want to cover all her bases in a matter of a few days. Way to go lady!

SYMPATHIES – We wish to extend our sympathies to the Hogue family (Marlene, Melissa, Richie and Rhica) in lieu of Richard’s recent passing. Richard and his wife Marlene of Joliet IL bought property on Christy Lake in 1989. They became permanent residents in 1994. Richard was known for his love of the forest and all that it entailed. He considered himself not so much a landowner as a Steward of the Forest with a sign indicating that when entering his property. He cared deeply about every creature and and plant of the forest that surrounded him. He also loved gardening and growing produce that he enjoyed sharing with neighbors and friends – especially his green beans. I was often a recipient of that produce and was always very thankful. He was a kind man and a good neighbor. One of Richard’s proudest accomplishments was of being a standing Union Carpenter for 55 years! He will be missed by many. Richard was 83.

This is also an opportunity to meet our new President – Josh Louks and our new Treasurer – Dave Hebert. Hope to see you there!

Proceeds from this season’s meat raffles will go towards projects and expenses for the upcoming season. Time to come out and support this hard working club whom do so much to ensure a safe and successful snowmobile season for our area, Hopefully, this year we will have a snow season for the snow enthusiasts to enjoy.

PAYING IT FORWARD – Once again, the Elk Country ATV Club have shown their community spirit in the form of donations made to both the Clam Lake Community Club and the Glidden Area Ambulance Service. This Club truly believes in the concept of “paying it forward” by making very generous donations to our area organizations and services. We thank them for all that they do to help our community!!! This year they made a $4,000 donation to the Glidden Area Ambulance Service and a $3,000 donation to the Clam Lake Community Club. Their hearts are definitely in the right place and we say thank you!!!!
