Clam Lake News & Events

Hello Clam Lake!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to one and all! We hope you enjoy your time spent with family and friends and have a very thankful season.

GOOD LUCK! We also want to wish all the hunters spending time in our mighty Chequamegon a safe and successful season. Once again, I want to point out that this season is supposed to be one of high yield due to our mild winter last year. We hope that rings true for all those hunters out there!

SPEAKING OF – BEAR HUNT UPDATE: According to Wisconsin Public Radio this past bear season harvest was up by 47% with 4,285 bears having been taken. This harvest exceeded the state’s quota after rebounding from their lowest harvest in 15 years. Wisconsin’s bear population was reported as being 23,000 bears this year. That’s almost three times the state’s bear population in 1989. A high abundance of natural foods, such as acorns, can account for a less successful season with bears less keyed in on hunter’s baits. Hunting in the northern zones was very active due to there being more bear abundance. It was noted that hunters are often more motivated to hunt the northern regions because they have to wait anywhere from 10 to 12 years to get a tag to hunt bears in those areas. From people I have spoken to living in the area, bears were here, there and everywhere this past year.

BOOK CLUB – The next meeting of the Clam Lake Book Club will be held on Tuesday December 10th running from 2:30 to 3:30 at Lisa’s cabin. This month’s book selection is “Hill Women” by Cassie Chambers whom grew up in Appalachia. She shares her experience of growing up around strong “hill women” who forged her life choices and gave her an appreciation for the environment she grew up in. It promises to bring some lively discussion to the table. If wishing to attend please contact Lisa at Lisaspeifer@gmail.com for directions and RSVP.

COMMUNITY CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY AND DECORATING– The Clam Lake Community Club will be hosting a Christmas Party on Thursday December 12th beginning at 5:00 pm. The first in our new building! To get everyone in the spirit, decorating for the party will be held on Thursday December 5th at 10:00 am. Time to come out and enjoy the spirit of the season with neighbors and friends.
