Clam Lake News & Events

Hello Clam Lake!

Hard to believe summer will soon be a thing of the past. With a few stray leaves changing color and the goldenrod blooming, we know Fall is right around the corner. From all reports, it’s been a great summer season in the village, with plenty of visitors that have come to enjoy our wonderful forest. We thank them for their patronage!

MEETING RECAP – On Thursday, August 15th the Clam Lake Community Club held their monthly meeting. The meeting, led by Vice President Ace Griffaw, was well attended. After a moment of silence for our recently deceased popcorn popper, which had given many years of service to community events, it was onward and upward. The highlight of the evening, as always, was our famed “Small Bucks Bingo”. The big winners were Ace Griffaw (door prize) and Patti Renzelmann (Fill the Card). Our congrats go out to them!

FOLLOW UP ELK NEWS – Josh Spiegel, our Elk Biologist, was happy to report that the Wisconsin NRB approved the DNR’s 10 year elk plan as written. This was presented to them on August 13th and was a unanimous decision. Good news!

ST. GEORGE CHAPEL – Every Saturday Mass is celebrated at 6:00 pm at St. George, our historic “Chapel in the Pines”. As the summer is winding down so are services at St. George. The last Mass of the season will be held on Saturday, September 1st. Then the doors will close until next year. So, time to come and take a step back in time to a simpler era in our log cabin chapel made from the forest that surrounds it. Come pray with us!

MARK THOSE CALENDARS – 1ST ANNUAL FLIPPER FEST – On Saturday, September 1st the Elkhorn Lodge will be hosting their first annual Flipper Fest. This event is in memory of Karen Johnson (nicknamed Flipper) whom passed away in 2023. The day will feature a Bean Bag contest, free pizza from noon to 2:00, a bear roast along with $2.00 Busch Lights all day! The day will round out with live music from 6:00 to 9:00 featuring Keith Christopherson Jr. Sounds like a good time looking for a place to happen! All are welcome!

BOOK CLUB RECAP – The Clam Lake Book Club met on Monday August 12th at the Elkhorn Lodge to discuss “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. The meeting was well attended bringing forth great discussions and lots of laughs. (Inside joke – Remember the 3rd) This past week I learned that this book, which is about a woman’s special relationship with a very intelligent Large Pacific Octopus, will be made into a screen adaptation for Netflix starring Sally Field. We all look forward to that! The next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 10th at Ransoms Place. The book on the roster for September is “Between Earth and Sky” by Amanda Skenandore. We welcome all to join us for some “lively discussion, camaraderie, tasty food and inspiring libation”. Meetings run from 4:30 to 5:30 with food and drink available for purchase.

Until next week…..
