Clam Lake News & Events

Hello Clam Lake!

We wish to extend a Happy Halloween to all those spooks and goblins out there and hope you have a wonderful Trick or Treat!!!!

MEETING REMINDERS – The Clam Lake Community Club will be holding their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, November 14th beginning at 5:00 pm. The meeting will be followed by a Pot Luck and some Clam Lake Style Bingo (otherwise known as “Small Bucks Bingo”) led by Master Bingo Caller Ace Griffaw. Time to come out and visit with neighbors and friends and learn what’s going on in the village. Hope to see you there!

SYMPATHIES – We wish to extend our sympathies to the family of Dorothy (Bucheger) Wolf on her passing this past week. Dorothy hails from Glidden but would often frequent our St. George’s Chapel during the summer months. She was a person that everyone knew and loved both from her own community and ours. She was one of the happiest and kindest people I’ve ever known and she will be so very missed. Seeing her was a bright spot in anyone’s day. Dorothy was 98.

BOOK CLUB – The next meeting of the Clam Lake Book Club will be held on Tuesday November 12th running from 2:30 till 3:30 at Lisa’s cabin. The book being discussed will be “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid whom also wrote “Daisy Jones and the Six” which was made into an Amazon Prime program. It you wish to attend, please contact Lisa Peifer at LisaSPeifer@gmail.com for directions and RSVP.

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT – In keeping with the season of Halloween, I thought to investigate our flying creatures of the night – bats and flying squirrels. Both animals share a common ancestor and use the same genes to create their flight structures and are both nocturnal but, for the most part, that’s where the similarities end. Bats have wings and can fly, flying squirrels can only glide using a furry membrane that stretches from wrist to ankle along with a stabilizing tail. Bats eat insects and lots of them, whereas flying squirrels will eat insects, nuts, fruits, seeds, berries, bird eggs and nestlings. They are both very unique creatures of the night!

Time to wish all of those celebrating birthdays in November a very Happy Day!
