Hello Clam Lake!
Fall is definitely in the air as the days and nights get cooler, the hummers are all but gone, leaves are turning and the elk are bugling.
BOOK CLUB – The Clam Lake Book Club will be meeting (or met, depending on when you get the news) Tuesday, September 10th at Ransoms Place. The book being discussed will be “Between Earth and Sky” by Amanda Skenandore. Discussion runs from 4:30 to 5:30 and we invite you to share in some “lively discussion, camaraderie, tasty food and inspiring libation”. Food and drink are available for purchase before, during and after meetings.
COMMUNITY CLUB MEETING – The Clam Lake Community Club will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, September 12th beginning at 5:00 pm. This meeting will feature elections being held for the officers of President and Treasurer. If you, or someone you know, is interested in these positions please attend the September meeting or contact one of the officers. After the meeting there will be a Pot Luck, followed by some Clam Lake Style Bingo led by Master Bingo Caller Ace Griffaw. Hope to see you there!
ELK FEST 2024 – This year’s Elk Fest will take place on Saturday, September 21st. The event will kick off at 9:00 am as the vendors set up their wares and exhibits. The fest will also feature a DNR Elk Education presentation beginning at 10:00 am. Directly following that there will be an Elk Walking Tour and a Kids Antler Hunt beginning at 2:00 pm. Remember all events and vendor set ups are free. Once again, the Elk Country ATV Club will be providing the food. On the menu will be the ever popular Flip Flop Chicken, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and chips. For entertainment, there will be two bands playing throughout the day. Also on that day the Forest Riders Snowmobile Club will be hosting their first meat raffle of the year at Ransoms Place running from 3:00 to 5:00. Sounds like Clam Lake will be the place to be on the 21st!!!!!
CHIEF OF THE FOREST SERVICE VISIT – Last Wednesday, Randy Moore, Chief of the Forest Service from Washington DC, paid Clam Lake a visit as he toured our mighty Chequamegon. Randy is the 20th Chief of the Forest Service whom leads a work force of more than 31,000 employees who sustainably manage 133 million acres of national forests and grasslands. He has served in this capacity since 2021 and is the first African American to hold this position. He was accompanied by other forest service officials, among them our own District Ranger Mike Martin. Also along was State of Wisconsin 7th District Representative Tom Tiffany, who is Committee Chair of a Natural Resources Sub Committee and Rob Stafsholt, a Wisconsin State Senator and seasonal Clam Laker. I must admit to being a bit “star struck” upon meeting the man that oversees the welfare of the forest we call home. We say Welcome! and Thank You!
Until next week….
