Hello Clam Lake!
This week saw the return of winter with snow on the ground by the end of the week. Considering last weekend was in the low 60’s all one can say is – what a difference a week can make in the northland! Considering it’s due to warm up a bit during this coming week the snow probably won’t last and may be gone by the time this goes to print. And that’s ok by me! As to all those snow enthusiasts wishing for snow – it’ll get there, it’ll get there….
DEER SEASON OPENER: Saturday, November 20th marks the beginning of the 2021 deer rifle season. It will run thru Sunday November 28th. Once again the Chequamegon will be filled with blaze orange as the hunters venture out in pursuit of the white tail. We wish them all a safe and successful season!
CONGRATS go to the Clam Lake Forest Rider’s for donating the proceeds of their November meat raffle (held last Saturday) to the Glidden Area Ambulance Service. We thank them for their spirit of giving. Way to go Clam Lake!
MEETING RECAP: The Clam Lake Community Club held their monthly meeting on Thursday November 11th. It was decided to hold a Christmas Party at the Club that will be held on Thursday December 9th beginning with a Pot Luck at 5:00 pm. This will be in lieu of the normal monthly meeting. All are invited to attend! If you wish to participate in the gift exchange you are asked to bring a $15 same sex gift. Decorating for the party will be held on Tuesday November 30th at 10:00 am. Anyone whom wishes to help with this is welcome. After the meeting and Pot Luck, Bingo ensued as our fearless Bingo Master, Ace Griffaw, led us in several games. Ace not only called Bingo but, played his card at the same time. This led to Ace totaling up his famous “three in a row” game making him a calendar winner. Good job! It was also Birthday Night at the Club with cake, cake and more cake being the order of the day as every dish served came with a side order of you guessed it – cake! Kathy Arias was the big winner of the night by winning several games and the infamous “Last Card” prize. Jerry Justice came away with the door prize. Congrats to them! A good time was had by all!
CHANGING LIVES: Last week, I had a chance to catch up with Lea Justice whom had just returned from Isla Mexico where her and her friend, Rhonda Rady of Hayward’s Leading Edge Veterinary Clinic, participated for the second time in the Rancho Vieja Free Spay and Neuter Campaign. With a group of 17 volunteer vets hailing from Mexico, the US and Brazil and over 100 assistant volunteers the clinic got underway. Following an intense four day period, 1,624 lives were changed. Lea remarked that the people line up for hours awaiting the opening of the clinic with pets in wheelbarrows, backs of trucks and cars, in bird cages, milk crates, totes and purses. They all love their mascotas (pets) but cannot afford the cost of spaying and neutering or routine vet care and are very appreciative of the service the clinic provides. Lea was part of the recovery team whom take care of the dogs and cats as they awaken. During this time, they monitor their temperature, trim their nails, clean ears and look for ticks. Lea and Rhonda also served as “Flight Angels” by bringing two puppies back with them to Minneapolis whom were met by people that will foster them until they find their forever homes. In total,42 puppies were turned over that will go to rescue stations in the US and Canada to begin new lives. Congratulations to all the participants on a job well done and for taking the time to make a difference! Thank you! Both Lea and Rhonda are looking forward to next year!
