Clam Lake News & Events

Hello Clam Lake!

BOOK CLUB REMINDER – The Clam Lake Book Club will hold their next meeting on Monday August 12th at the Elkhorn Lodge. The book being discussed will be “Remarkbly Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt which is a “Read with Jenna” selection. They hope you will join them for some “lively discussion, camaraderie, tasty food and inspiring libation”. Food and drink will be available for purchase before, during and after the meeting.

ST. GEORGE CHAPEL – Mass is celebrated at our historic summer mission chapel every Saturday evening at 6:00 pm. Services at St. George have traditionally run from Memorial Day thru Labor Day since these holidays herald the beginning and end of the summer season. Our chapel is a simple log cabin structure built in 1948 and very indicative of that era. Time to take a step back in time when within. Come pray with us!

NEXT COMMUNITY CLUB MEETING – MARK THOSE CALENDARS – Due to prior commitments by some of the Community Club officers the next meeting of the Clam Lake Community Club will be bumped out a week taking place on Thursday August 15th rather than the 8th. Following the meeting there will be a Pot Luck and some Clam Lake Style Bingo led by Master Bingo Caller Ace Griffaw (Certification from Cayuga Tech). Hope to see you there!

CAMP FIRE ISLAND EAGLE UPDATE – I had a chance to speak with Rick Hinchcliff this past week about how things are progressing on Camp Fire Island as our resident eagles raise their chick. Rick keeps a close eye on their activities and reported that the parent eagles have entered into the “tough love” stage. Although the eaglet is large enough to fly around and garner food for itself it still spends a great deal of time sitting in or near the nest crying for mom and dad to come and feed it. The parents, aware of this, spend less and less time around the nest which will ultimately force the young bird to forage for itself. Rick said he did view it feeding on some carrion so it’s getting the idea. Although, a hand out from mom and dad wouldn’t go amiss either. This type of behavior will go on most of the summer as the parents anxiously await “empty nest syndrome” to begin.
