Clam Lake News & Events

Hello Clam Lake!

We’ve experienced another beautiful week of above normal temps – highs in the low 60’s and sunny skies. This led to the ice melting off of the lakes leaving it open for all the returning water fowl. Ice out on March 13th seems amazing and although ice has gone out in March other years, I’m not sure if it’s been quite this early. Many years the ice barely makes it out for the opening of fishing season. No worries on that score this year! We definitely have been treated to a very nice “winter”. (Of course, by the end of the weekend, we were reminded that Mother Nature can reverse course at any time as white began to appear on the ground.)

MARK THOSE CALENDARS – SPRING FLING – This year’s Clam Lake Spring Fling will be held on Saturday April 6th at the Clam Lake Community Center beginning at 4:00 pm. People participating are asked to bring a dish to pass and whatever they want to drink. As always, this promises to be a fun event as people come out to celebrate the season with neighbors and friends. All are welcome!

MEETING RECAP – The Clam Lake Community Club held their monthly meeting on Thursday March 14th at the Clam Lake Community Center. It was noted that Makala Ruekema will be taking over the maintenance of the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) that is housed in the Clam Lake Post Office. This device is owned by the Clam Lake Community Club and was previously maintained by Jack McGregor. We thank Jack for his years of making sure our AED was working properly and also wish to extend thanks to local EMT Makala Ruekema for taking it over. With our drought conditions in the forest, emergency evacuation in case of forest fire was also discussed. This will be addressed at future meetings. The big winner of the night was Kathy (McCorison) Arias whom not only took the door prize and the Fill Your Card Bingo prize but also won 4 games of Bingo!!! Our congrats go out to her!!!!

GEOCACHING IN CLAM LAKE – The Clam Lake Junction noted that a couple had stopped in that spend their retirement years “geocaching”. Geocaching is the world’s largest treasure hunt which guides you to hidden treasures around the globe. As luck would have it, one of these hidden treasures is only ¼ mile from the Junction itself. These treasures are usually a box or container which house a notebook to put your name and the date and leave it for the next person to find. Often times people will leave little trinkets in the container as well which people are welcome to take. For more info you can go to www.geocaching.com

REMINDER – EASTER EGG HUNT – The Clam Lake Junction is once again sponsoring their in store Easter Egg Hunt. Hidden in the public spaces of the Junction are eggs filled with candy. If you find them the candy is yours! There is also one golden egg hidden. If you are lucky enough to find that, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate. Happy Hunting everyone!!!

Until next week…..
