Hello Clam Lake!
ELK FEST RECAP: Unfortunately, Saturday dawned as a pretty soggy day for our 2023 Elk Fest. Regardless, several people turned out for the event with Josh’s Elk Informational talk well attended. As always, he did a great job spending most of the day with us interacting and answering questions. The food stand, with Jeff Landis cooking the flip chicken and members of the ATV Club manning the stand, was also a busy place and even though the rain drops were falling everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The kids especially had a great time participating in the antler hunt put on by Rob Sparhawk and riding the “Elk Train” provided by Lyn Hartl. Hats off to all those that helped with the day! Hopefully, next year is a bit drier.
OCTOBER ELK HUNT – This year’s Elk season will begin on October 14th through November 12th with the second half of it running from December 14th through December 22nd. Once again this year there will be a total of 8 bull elk harvested. Three of one group of four will go to Wisconsin resident Elk lottery winners with the fourth being raffled off by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. The other four bulls are allotted to the Tribes. We wish them all a safe season. (Elk hunting notation from the DNR – While the northern and central elk herd population continue to grow the 2023 season will occur only within the northern elk management zone.)
SPEAKING OF – There are a variety of hunting seasons going on at the present time. Both grouse and archery deer have been going since mid-September although bear season will be wrapping up soon. The hunting seasons are a busy time for our forest community with many hunters traveling up from other areas to harvest game.
AND….speaking of seasons…..bough season has begun. Am sure we will be seeing bough cutters out and about as they gather the much sought after boughs that will provide the various wreath factories with the product they need to make the large volumes of Christmas wreaths that our forest provides.
