A FUN DAY IN CLAM LAKE!!!!
January 21st looks like the day to spend in Clam Lake – here’s why:
ELK COUNTRY ATV CLUB ICE FISHING CONTEST: On Saturday, January 21st the Elk Country ATV Club will once again be hosting their popular ice fishing contest on Upper Clam Lake. This year marks the club’s 15th year of holding this event! The contest will begin at 8:00 am and conclude at 3:00 pm. During the day, there will be raffles for a new fish locator and other goodies along with door prizes. The final drawing will be for the “BIG” prize – a brand new side by side ATV! Food and drink will also be made available for purchase in the food tent. The ATV Club, over the past few years, has been very generous with donations to the Glidden Area Ambulance Service. So, keep in mind when you support them you are allowing them to pay it forward. Hope to see you there!
MEAT RAFFLE: In conjunction with the Ice Fishing Contest, the Forest Riders Snowmobile Club will be holding a meat raffle on the 21st running from 3:00 to 5:00 at Ransoms Place. This is another of our hard working Clam Lake Clubs. They have been busy grooming and clearing trails so that our village can once again enjoy a successful snowmobile season. Our thanks go out to them for helping to boost our forest economy. They, too, have made donations towards various charities, including the Glidden Area Ambulance Service with proceeds from their raffles. (Remember all meats come from Rondeaus in Cable – Yum!)
THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN: The Clam Lake Community Club will soon be sending out their annual letter. 2023 will mark the Club’s 86th year of serving the Clam Lake community since it was incorporated in 1937. Prior to that, it was known as the Clam Lake Community Association or the CLCA. Before the Club House was completed in 1942, meetings and gatherings were held on Camp Fire Island and at the Clam Lake School. Cost for membership is $10 per person or $25 for a family membership. Dues can be sent to: Clam Lake Community Club Inc, Box 6, Clam Lake, WI 54517. Over the years, the Club has and continues to be involved in many things that have benefited our community from getting electric and phone service to the installation of the life saving helipad. We thank you for your continued support for Clam Lake’s only civic organization.
PURPLE HEART BEAR CAMP: For the past three years, working with “Ryan off the Grid” whom writes for Bear Hunting Magazine, Randy Sersch (Gandhi) of Clam Lake, has donated his time to provide a bear hunt for Purple Heart recipients. Randy operates Clam Lake Guide and Taxidermy Service. This year’s hunt was featured in the January 2023 edition of Bear Hunting magazine. Assisting in this worthwhile endeavor were Deb Higgins and Denny Huber who donated Pine Point Resort to be used as a lodge for the hunters. The Purple Heart is one of the most recognizable awards in the US Armed Forces. The citation on the medal reads, “For military merit and for wounds received in action.” Ryan reported that the peaceful time spent in the forest afforded the veterans time to share their individual stories of brotherhood, injury and loss. He remarked, “This camp was special. You just felt it.” He went on to say, “The outdoors gifted me with a new lease on life, helping others experience healing and bonding in the wild continues to charge my soul. Giving back leaves everyone’s cup full.” Ryan, is himself, a veteran whom suffers from PTSD. We thank him and Randy for donating their time and efforts to this worthwhile cause and for sharing the journey with us.
