Hello Clam Lake!
CELEBRATION OF LIFE – There will be a Celebration of Life for Tim (Twigger) Steffen of Clam Lake on Friday October 20th beginning at 2:00 pm at their home right across from the Clam Lake Lodge. Tim and his wife Teri moved up to Clam in 2001 and proceeded and to lead a life of living off the land. Their first home was a tent on Chippewa Lake during the summer months and a camper in town during the winter. They loved being over on Chippewa Lake and would return there for the summers and camping trips. In 2003, they moved into their home across from the Lodge which had been the former home of Derek and Margo Gifford. When over at Chippewa Lake they began working picking moss for a company that would use it for decorative works. Along with the moss they picked birch, alder and dogwood sticks (twigs) along with pussy willows. Hence the nickname “Twigger”. They also did a lot of bough cutting with Teri making many “one of a kind” wreaths for people to purchase. Tim enjoyed fishing and grouse hunting and was very much a man of the outdoors. He also enjoyed his fish tank where he kept his Glofish. Tim was a very well known member of the community and will be missed. Tim was 65.
UPCOMING COSTUME CONTEST – On Saturday, October 28th Ransoms will be hosting a Costume Contest to celebrate that spookiest of holidays – Halloween. The party will begin at 8:00 with the contest judging at 9:00. With the spirit of “Happy Halloween” participants are encouraged to bring a treat to share. Time to get your spook on and have some fun!
HISTORY MOMENT – Taken from a October 12th 1931 edition of the Glidden Enterprise: “Commencing on October 1st the mail service to Clam Lake will be three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. This arrangement will continue until next year.” Ahhhh….the good ole’ days….
COMMUNITY CENTER UPDATE – We have heat!!!!!!!! in our new Community Center. With that in place, we can climatize the wainscoting that is stacked inside so it can be installed. Our front door has arrived! – which we had been anxiously awaiting. With the door in place, it’s onward and upward with putting the rest of the siding on. As with most building projects these days it’s a waiting game with materials and availability. In many ways we have been very lucky with how quickly we have been able to proceed. We’re getting there!!!! Drive by and take a look when out and about!
SPEAKING OF….Last Saturday had the officers of the Clam Lake Community Club Inc. and Doug Thorp (Chairman of the Town of Gordon) meeting with Curt Berweger from Bayfield Electric. Curt came over to present a donation of $2,000 on behalf of Bayfield Electric towards the purchase of a generator for our new Community Center. On hand to accept the check was Doug Thorp so the Town of Gordon can hand it off to us. Having a generator will ensure that the Center can be used as a Emergency Center in case of need. We thank them for this generous contribution which will ensure the safety and well being of our forest community.
(As of press time we were informed of the passing of Nancy Chisholm. More next week.)
Until next week….
