Hello Clam Lake!
MEETING NOTICE: A meeting on the Hudson Bay Dam will be held on Saturday July 2nd at 9:00 am at the Clam Lake Community Club to discuss ownership and maintenance of the dam. Richard Pufall, Chairman of the Ashland County Board, will be there representing Ashland County. Options that will be discussed will be Ashland County taking ownership which would give it the ability to tax property owners living on the water affected for repairs and maintenance or to form a Lake District.
4th OF JULY CELEBRATION: Clam Lake’s annual 4th of July celebration will be held on Sunday, July 3rd at the Clam Lake Community Club. Along with the wonderful fireworks display, the refreshment stand will feature cold drinks, popcorn and barbecues. Time to start warming up those “oohs and ahhs!” Fireworks begin at dusk.
MEETING REMINDER: The Clam Lake Community Club will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, July 14th beginning at 5:00 pm. The short meeting will be followed by a Pot Luck after which we settle in for some Clam Style Bingo led by Master Bingo Caller Ace Griffaw. Hope to see you there!
ST. GEORGE’S CHAPEL: Every Saturday at 6:00 pm Mass is celebrated in our historic “Chapel in the Woods”. Come take a step back in time to a simpler era as you worship in our log cabin chapel built by the people of Clam Lake in 1948. Come pray with us!
LOONS HATCH ON UPPER CLAM: Although there are no young eagles on Upper Clam this year, a pair of loons have successfully hatched out two loonlets (chicks). FYI – Loons are considered one of the most primitive birds on earth – this meaning they have not changed in about 1 million years. They are protected by State and Federal laws as a migratory, nongame bird and are considered a Species of Special Concern in Wisconsin. Loons are known to be very good parents and are protective of their young and can live up to 25 to 30 years. Contrary to popular belief, they do not mate for life. Their attachment seems to be more with a particular lake rather than another loon. WARNING: Harrassing protected waterfowl carries a fine of $500 and/or time in jail. So please keep this in mind and be considerate of this young family when out and about on Upper Clam.
