Gathered for their annual “Bugle Days Rendezvous” recently near Clam Lake, 65 Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) members heard an update from the state’s chief big game biologist about the health of the elk herds in Wisconsin.
They also heard a positive report from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest supervisor about expanded timber harvest in the national forest that will benefit the elk herd.

It’s beautiful Sunday afternoon, the mercury on our side of Lower Clam Lake is settled in at 66 degrees. There’s a light breeze and if you sit in the sun it’s pretty nice. Sometimes fall like is the best!
In affiliation with my writings on Camp Fire Island, I had the good fortune to become acquainted with Kim Potaracke, a Forest Archaeologist. She has archived the story of Camp Fire Island for us. She, in return, shared some early Clam Lake history with me that she had found.

It’s about 6:30 pm and the mercury is quickly falling, as we reached a balmy 78 degrees today the night should be pretty comfortable. I’m hoping for another spectacular sunset. It seems to change to a beautiful red as it hits the tops of the trees and the reflection on the lake is awesome! The beauty of our Northwood’s…. there’s nowhere better than this!
